What is Unlimited Domain Hosting?
Unlimited domain hosting, simply put, means that when you buy web hosting that offers this service, you can basically have as many websites as you want tied to just 1 hosting account. It was only a few years ago that hosting companies only allowed 1 website per hosting account. This meant if you had, say 3 different websites, you needed to have 3 separate hosting accounts each with their own hosting fees. This is not the case any longer.
Thankfully for webmasters and site owners, times have changed and the web hosting industry has continued to be a competitive market that companies are willing to offer more ‘bang for your buck’ with features such as unlimited domain hosting. These days, it doesn’t matter how many websites you have. You can host them all under just 1 account. No need to login in and out of different hosting control panels to manage them either. You can take care of everything all through 1 central hosting control panel.
But there are 2 things to keep in mind with unlimited domain hosting. First, the way that hosting unlimited domain works is that each domain that you add to your hosting account shares the resources of all the other websites on the same account. So this means you split up things like the disk space, bandwidth, email mailbox sizes, and database sizes between all the sites you have. For example, think of it in terms of a pie that you want to split amongst your friends. The pie represenets the host account and the friends represent each website you want to have on the hosting. No matter how many friends you want to split the pie with, you only have just that 1 pie to split amongst all of them. It works the same way with unlimited domain hosting. Your hosting account comes with a fixed amount of resources (just like the pie has a fixed number of pieces it can be sliced into) so it doesn’t matter how many sites you create, they all will be dividing up according to what is available.
The second thing to consider about hosting unlimited domains is that HOSTING unlimited domains is not the same thing as REGISTERING Unlimited domains. So there is no charge for just having a website on your hosting account. But those domain names for the websites still need to be registered whether it’s with the hosting company or with a domain registration service. In an upcoming post, I will talk more about a practical way to manage multiple domains.
