Backups

In terms of web hosting, backups are essentially a copy of all or part of your hosting account.   This is usually kept in a different location then the original files for security purposes.  Having backups of your hosting account serves 2 different purposes.  The first is for complete data restoration due to irrecoverable file corruption or loss.  The other is to restore a few files or settings to a time before the current account settings or update.

Most hosting companies will provide different types of backup options.  The most common  are full hosting backup, database backup, or email forwarder backups.

It is always a good idea to backup your hosting account whenever you make significant updates or changes to your site.  Also, it is highly recommended to maintain a regular backup schedule to minimize data loss in case of unforseen problems.
