Building Your Website The Right Way

When you build a website, like anything, it is best to create it the right way the first time. In the long run, you will save more time and possibly money over having to constantly redo it. So before creating a website, the first thing to do is think about what the ultimate goal of your website is, what do you want to do with it, what resources do you have in creating the website, what are your plans in launching it?

Far too many people start creating a website without proper and clear planning only to have another website that fails to deliver. You have probably seen them or created them yourself (I know I have). These are the sites that look like it took less than 10 minutes to put together and you can’t figure out what information the site is trying to point out. Remember creating an unsuccessful website is just as costly and time consuming as it is to create an impressive and attractive website that will not only attract visitors but search engine results as well.

As mentioned already, the first step is to determine what your site will be about. The topic should speak to the reader and convey a clear and relevant message. If the concept of the website is understood and well received, you have already done the hardest part.

Next, you want to select keywords that best describe your topic and is well searched. Here is the tricky part though, you want to pick words that are well searched but at the same time not to broad or general. Try to be specific as possible but not so specific that you narrow your keywords too much and only a handful of people actually searching for that keyword. Also, the visitor should be able to locate the keywords on the first or second page of your website. Information on each page should revolve around the keyword.

After that, you want to keep up to date on your topic. Make sure that any and all information is still relevant. If you want to have visitors coming back, this is very important. Old or out dated information sends the message to your readers that you don’t really care about the content and your website. So make sure to check up on what’s new in the industry that your website talks about it. Become an expert in the field so you can provide your own thoughts and opinions. This will build confidence in not only your website but in you as well.

But whatever the information, whether objective or subject, the information should be concise, brief and to the point. Remember, the best way to attract readers is to make it easy to understand and appealing to the reader. It should satisfy the visitor.

Remember, the best and first thing to do in creating a well received and trusted website is to do it right the first time. This means making sure that the topic is clear and to the point. You don’t someone looking for one thing and finding another.

I can’t tell you the number of crappy looking sites I have seen that have no focus.

People just throw up stuff and think “wow, what a great site I just built”. Sorry to tell you…it’s not.

If people actually took the time to write down what the purpose of the site was and how they wanted to convey it, instead of just creating it on the fly, I think a lot of people would be surprised at how many more people would come back to their site.

for example look at photographertoronto.com Just really poorly designed and hard to read because of the horrible background. I find it ironic that he is a photographer.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!
