Watchout For Multiple Domain Hosting
Almost all web hosting providers are now offering as part of their hosting packages, the option to host multiple domains under 1 hosting account. This is definitely a great feature for those that have multiple websites to manage but don’t have the budget to host them all. But there is something to be aware of before you signup. Just because they offer it, doesn’t mean that you won’t pay for it.
The ability to host more than one website from the same account is a very appealing proposition. It makes it easier to manage your sites and can potentially save you money because you don’t have to pay full price for each domain you have. But you still might have to pay.
What many web hosting providers are doing when they advertise this feature is letting people know the maximum number of domains they can host with each web hosting account and not necessarily that the number is available for you for free. So when a web hosting company advertises that you can host 10 domains, they are saying you can host a maximum of 10 domains. So the first domain will come with the hosting package but the other 9 domains will be charged for additional per domain fee.
In most cases, the fee for the additional domain will be lower than if you were to purchase a whole new hosting account so it is still advantageous but there are some things to be aware of. Because you are sharing the resources, what happens to one domain can affect the others. This follows the idea of “putting all your eggs in one basket”.
So while hosting multiple domains under one hosting account is very beneficial and cost effective, it is important to know the full story of what is included and not included. For many webmaster and website owners, this is still a great feature.
